One Sheet BioBEN MAHONY Benmahony.com Ben Mahony writes songs of passion, hope, despair and humour. His CD, "Action/Reaction," received airplay on CBC radio, college radio in western Canada, CKUA-FM in Alberta, and commercial radio inthe Yukon, and played live and acoustic on Andy Donnelly's show on CKUA FM in Edmonton, performed at The Palmino in Calgary and rocked an open stage in Antigua, Guatemala. Now comes the NEW CHAPTER. The long awaited new full-length release. It has been a labour of love. The new record shows some maturity and some depth. It has some unplugged attempts at pure song writing but also some signature retro modern rock and roll. The record is called "Yukon Love Ghosts" and features a collection of songs written between 1997 and 2010 loosely based around themes of haunting, celebration and moving on from both west coast amore and the spirits of the north. (Give it a listen.) Track 7 is a dancesong. The one before it is a folk song. The record begins with a folk-rock hymn, "Set Your Heart" written in Whitehorse in 2002, before the Big-eyed Beans, before the Rhino party, before the madness ensued. He has played Frostbite Music Festival and the Farrago Folk Festival in the Yukon and more recently at The Black Dog in Edmonton, The Railway Club in Vancouver and The Bass Line in Ottawa. He played well-received solo acoustic shows as well as rollicking electric setsto crowds of up to 500 on the main stage at both the Dawson City Music Festival and the Northern BC Atlin Arts and Music Festival. The Dawson City Music Festival called his sound : "Alterna-rawk witha northern edge." The Klondike Sun described his live sound as"hard hitting rock that just made your feet itch if you didn't dance... By the end of their set they had the people in the tent up and singing along." Mahony has been featured on CKRW AM in Whitehorse as the Yukon artist of the day. He has played frequently in the Yukon recently playing solo acoustic shows featuring new material available for download at benmahony.com and to hear at myspace.com/benmahony. The power pop song, "The Remainder" was featured on The Outdoor LivingNetwork. Before heading north in 2002, Mahony spent two years in Lethbridge, Alberta where he became appreciated for playing marathon solo shows, which sometimes topped the three-hour mark. He played the South Country Fair Folk Festival twice and became a regular at the Tongue and Groove in Lethbridge. Recent highlights include the Moonstroke Festival in Whitehorse and contributing to a high school musical . The CD release is cued up forJuly 8th and 9th at Foxy's in Whitehorse, Yukon. A house show in Dawson is planned and a western Canadian tour is in the works in the late Fall from Winnipeg west to the Pacific ocean... more to come...
