Frappe La RueBen Mahony is taking on Western Canada again. In support of the upcoming release of the new CD, “Yukon Love Ghosts, “ Mahony will be touring Edmonton to Winnipeg. The new record features a mix of acoustic balladering and indie retro rocking. There is also a dance song that sounds like New Order. Mahony had the gall to handle guitars bass and vocals himself this time around and with the expert aid of engineer/producer Chris Issak the results are a great leap forward.Past shows in the Yukon have been the Yukon toppermmost including Dawson City Music Festival and Shipyards Park in Whitehorse and the eccentric: Beaver Creek Baseball Tournament and the Watson Lake New Years Eve Celebration. More recently solo acoustic shows have become the central focus again. The brit pop sounds of songs like “Ten Years Tomorrow” and “Decease” originally included on the “Action/Reaction” EP which received airplay on CBC, CKUA and local Yukon commercial radio have been re-worked into acoustic ballads. The mingling of acoustic and electric sounds on Yukon Love Ghosts” was showcased at “Yukonfest” on September 25th at the Railway Club where Kyle Cashen from crashthecar.ca played bass. (Video to come soon at benmahony.com.The more aggressive sound of songs like “The Remainder” which was featured on a television production by A channel’s Ride Guide Productions is echoed on some of the new material which Mahony will play with a trio at CD release events in the Yukon in June before embarking on the solo tour which will bookend at Times Changed in Winnipeg in August. For more information, audio and bookings contact Mahony.ben@gmail.com or gotobenmahony.com
